The Habit of Self-Care

Things have been getting busy for me lately. Really, really busy. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and my brain fires off a thousand and one things that I need to do in the day that lies before me. That is never a good way to start the day. But, I've started doing things differently in the past couple of weeks. I've decided to combat those overwhelming feelings, and take about five minutes to just lay in bed before I start the day. The night before, I will set my alarm for whatever time I want to wake up, and then set another alarm for five minutes so that I can just lay in silence, and think about something calming, or that brings me feelings of joy before getting out of bed. The results have been that I not only feel calmer, but I feel more balanced, and in control at the start of my day. It has become a habit for me now, and I tend to feel out of whack if I do not start my day this way. I've realized that when you get in the habit of self care- all else around you falls into place. Last weekend I went to Eastern Market with Rich. I've also been pretty lazy with my hair lately, but I finally took it out from under a hat or from being tied up in a bun to let my fro see some sunshine. Photo cred: http://richardtfields.com/
